| บทคัดย่อ |
An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals. In turn, these radicals can start chain reactions. When the chain reaction occurs in a cell, it can cause damage or death to the cell. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions. This study aims to investigate antioxidant activity of white blood cell extracts from Crocodylus siamensis blood. Antioxidant activity of the white blood cell extracts was investigated using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging, lipid peroxidation and reducing power assay. Results showed that the extracts of white blood cell at the concentrations of 11, 1.375 and 0.37 mg/ml exhibited DPPH free radical scavenging activity (%AI) at 88.05%, 81.70% and 54.67%, respectively, lipid peroxidation inhibition at 100%, 67.64% and 8.65%, respectively and reducing power equivalent to trolox at 32.73, 7.61 and 1.38 respectively. In conclusion, the white blood cell extracts from Crocodylus siamensis blood might have a potential for pharmaceutical applications. Further studies on bioactivities of this extract are needed. |
