Abstract In the past few decades, learner motivation has been one of the key areas in second language research. However, motivation research has largely concentrated more on identifying types of motivation in certain types of learners with fewer studies experimenting how to enhance motivation. This study aims to explore to what extent self-imaging helps increase motivation of low-achieving English learners. Participants who were identified as low-achievers were separated into two groups. The first group was given self-imaging activities, while the second was not given any motivation enhancement activities. To assess changes in learners’ motivation, a motivation in learning questionnaire was administered prior to and after the treatment. Furthermore, classroom behavior observations were conducted at pre, during, and post treatment stages. The data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Preliminary findings are discussed.
