Abstract |
Copper oxide (CuO)-zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposite has been prepared by chemical precipitation method. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy has been used for confirmation of the structure. The FT-IR spectrum showed bands in the low wave number region 400-850 cm-1 corresponding to the vibration modes of M-O (M= Cu, Zn). The UV-vis diffused reflectance spectrum exhibited the absorbance band edge at 344 nm. The optical band gab (Eg) of CuO-ZnO nanocomposites, which can be determined from the plot of (⍺h)2 versus h by extrapolation, was found to be 3.60 eV. XRD results confirmed the presence of CuO and ZnO phases in hybrid nanostructures. The diffraction peaks of CuO monoclinic phase were at 2θ = 32.20o, 39.62o, 53.54o and 60.36o corresponding to the refraction from (002), (111), (020) and (202) planes, respectively. The diffraction peaks of ZnO hexagonal wurtzite phase were at 2θ = 33.38o, 34.72o, 37.24o, 46.71o, 57.68o, 62.07o, 68.79o and 76.20o corresponding to the refraction from (100), (002), (101), (102), (110), (103), (112) and (202) planes, respectively. The SEM morphology of CuO-ZnO nanocomposite showed spherical structure with a diameter of about 50-160 nm. The application of the composite as photocatalyst for removing of azo dye will be investigated. |
