Abstract The aim of this study was to estimate combining ability in terms of general (GCA), specific (SCA), and reciprocal (RCA) for growth traits in three native chickens including Black-bone Chinese (BC), Black-bone Hmong (BH), Thai Native chicken (TN) by diallel mating system. This system produced nine mating pairs including BCxBC, BCxBH, BCxTN, BHxBC, BHxBH, BHxTN, TNxBC, TNxBH and TNxTN. Growth trait data in terms of body weight were recorded weekly until 14 weeks of age. The components of the genetic variance were calculated using Griffing’s (1956) method 1. The results showed that the body weight at the end of experiment (Week 14) in purebred were 1580.75, 1522.19, and 1108.84 g in BC, TN, and BH, respectively. Meanwhile the body weight in crossbred was found higher in BCxTN (1635.97 g) and TNxBC (1599.66 g) compared with the others. GCA analysis showed the additive genetic effects for growth performance could be ranked as BCxBC > TNxTN > BHxBH. SCA showed the non-additive genetic effects could be ranked as BCxTN > BHxTN > BCxBH. RCA analysis showed the switching crosses could be ranked as TNxBH > TNxBC > BHxBC. These results indicated that BCxBC had high genetic potential for growth performance compare with others purebred. Meanwhile BCxTN should be developed as crossbred for industrial level in the future.
