Abstract |
The phenomenon of saltwater intrusion induces the increase of salinity level in surface as well as underground water in coastal areas. Its impacts are mostly negative on agricultural activities, water resource and ecosystem in NamDinh province, especially in dry season from November to April next year. The research was conducted to study adaptation of farm households who practice cultivation and aquaculture in the real situation of RangDong commune, NghiaHung district, NamDinh province, Vietnam. The result was shown that farmers in the commune have applied various adaptive measures to saltwater intrusion. Changing varieties and techniques are two favorite methods chosen by farmers in both rice cultivation and aquaculture practice. In addition, authority and social group in the area have supported farm household to adapt to saltwater intrusion through promoting policies as well as new and advance varieties and technology. Thus, the adaptation of farm households and community has contributed to maintain livelihood of local residents. |
