Abstract Ecological Assessment of chicken manure from poultry farm on soil microbial activity and earthworm Natchayathon Khattiyaphutthimet1 and Chuleemas Boonthai Iwai1,2 1 Khon Kaen University, Division of Land Resources and Environment, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen, 40002 THAILAND, natkhat223@gmail.com 2 Integrated Water Resource Management Research and Development Center in Northeast Thailand, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen, 40002 Thailand, chuleemas1@gmail.com Abstract The development of poultry production has been grown in Thailand. The impact on the environmental quality from chicken manure has been concerned. The hazards of land application of chicken manure on soil biota is needed. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chicken manure on earthworms and soil microbial activities under different types of soil series. Earthworm avoidance test and soil respiration was conducted by using the different concentration of chicken manure 0, 6.25, 12.50 and 18.75 T ha−1 under Phimai and Roi-et soil series. The results showed that chicken manure enhanced soil microbial activities. However, chicken manure has affected on earthworm avoidance activity in both soil types. Therefore, more study on the long term impact of chicken manure on earthworm needs to be investigation. Key words: Soil pollution; Chicken manure; Risk Assessment
