Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship of chemical composition and in vitro gas production. Thirteen feedstuffs including 5 roughages and 8 concentrates were used in this study. Gas samples were taken during 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h of incubation. The data was analyzed using stepwise linear regression. The total gas production of roughage and concentrate sources were significance (P<0.05). The total gas prediction model of roughage at 72 h (ml/g DM) = 282.32 + 1.05(DM %) – 27.10(CP %) + 19.93(fat %) – 4.70(Ash %); R 2 = 0.51, adj. RMSE = 51.14 ml/g DM. The total gas prediction model of concentrate at 72 h (ml/g DM) = 215.74 + 2.12 (NFC %) – 1.00(DM %) – 7.00(fat %) + 17.40(Ash %) – 2.9(CP %); R 2 = 0.93, adj. RMSE = 24.94 ml/g DM. The models can predict the gas production as well as for selective feedstuffs to increase feed utilization.
