     Abstract Leaf anatomy in four drought-tolerant rice cultivars namely DH103, DH212, IR62266 and CT9993 and one drought-sensitive rice cultivar namely KDML105 were determined. Youngest fully expanded leaves from 60-day-old plants were collected from Chum Phae Rice Research Center. Leaves were fixed and sectioned by paraffin methods. The anatomical characteristics including leaf thickness, vertical length and horizontal length of lateral vascular bundles, number of large and small vascular bundles, area of xylem vessels in the lateral vascular bundles, and width and length of bulliform cells were investigated. The result showed that the width and length of lateral vascular bundles, area of xylem vessels, and bulliform cells length of drought tolerant rice cultivar (CT9993) were found to be significantly larger than those of drought-sensitive KDML105.
