Abstract Experiment II: Comparison of dominance variance and mate sire variance effects for the fertility traits in Thai native chickens using Legendre polynomials as a basis function: The objective of this study is to compare the appropriate models which use to estimate the value of genetic parameters in fertility traits which are fertility (FER), hatchability of fertile eggs (HOF), and hatchability of eggs set (HOS) in Thai native chickens (Pradu Hang Dam). Data were collected in each fertility trait of 3,435 tests-week records from 715 hens, 158 mate sires, and 972 pedigree animals. Three random regression models were analyzed using the Legendre polynomials function with 2nd orders: Model 1 (M1: A+PE) was adjusted by using additive genetic (A) and permanent environmental effect (PE). Model 2 (M2: A+PE+D) was adjusted by using dominance effect (D). Finally, model 3 (M3: A+MS+PE+D) was adjusted by using mate sire effect (MS). Variance components were estimated in three models using Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML). The results found that the low heritability of FER, HOF, and HOS in models M1-M3 rang form 0.031-0.040, 0.037-0.066, and 0.040-0.059, respectively. Which the adjusted of dominance effect and mate sire effect in M3 could reduce upward bias in heritability and improved the accuracy variance components estimates higher than M1 and M2. In conclusion, the genetic evaluation for FER, HOF, and HOS will be included the dominance effect and mate sire effect to increase the accuracy of evaluation in breeding values and also to plan for mate selection properly in breeding program.
