Abstract Introduction: Depression usually is unnoticed and untreated. Therefore, many of those with depression end up committing suicide. Middle-aged women in Myanmar face various problems which might increase the risk of depression. Objective: This study aimed to identify the prevalence of depression and its associated factors among middle-aged women in Myanmar. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 563 middle-aged women (40 to 59 years old) who were multistage randomly selected from 4 districts of Yangon Region, Myanmar to response to a structured questionnaire interview. The questionnaire consisted of personal data, health status, the DASS - 42, perceived social support and the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. Multivariable logistic regressions were used to determine the associations. Results: The average age of these middle-aged women was 48.72 ±5.66 years old. Majority of the respondents were married, and most of them were from rural areas. The prevalence of depression among the middle-aged women was 30.02% (95%CI: 26.22-33.81). The factors that were statistically significant with depression among the middle-aged women were had low to moderate level of family relationship satisfaction (Adj. OR=2.07; 95%CI: 1.22–3.51, P=0.007), being in menopause and post menopause (Adj. OR=2.07; 95%CI: 1.27–3.37, P=0.003), experiencing mistreatment in their childhood (Adj. OR=2.19; 95%CI: 1.30–3.68, P=0.003), rural residence (Adj. OR=2.66; 95%CI: 1.52–4.65, P<0.001), had moderate level of self-esteem (Adj. OR=4.76, 95%CI: 2.39–9.48, P<0.001), had severe anxiety (Adj. OR=4.82, 95%CI: 2.48–9.38, P <0.001) and had moderate to severe levels of stress (Adj. OR=8.45, 95%CI: 4.83 – 14.76, P<0.001). Conclusion: Almost one third of the middle age women had depression. Social, physical and psychological factors such as anxiety and stress had influence on depression among the middle-aged women. Keywords: Depression, Middle-aged women, Myanmar
