Abstract |
Tuberculosis (TB) patients have difficulty following a long-term treatment regimen. The study was carried out in Pontianak (Indonesia), to investigate factors contributing to success and unsuccess among TB treatment and to find out what are the most significant factors affecting success and unsuccess treatment.
Methods: Total 100 respondents from 23 Puskesmases in the Pontianak city is chosed randomly and is divided into two groups: unsuccess TB treatment (44 respondents) and success TB treatment (56 respondents). Risks for success were estimated by computing odds ratio (OR) and their 95% confidence interval (95%CI) using a logistic regression model. All respondents were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaires, consisting of I. Socio-demographic characteristics
II. Patterns in health promotion and III. Adherence.
Results: Data collection was conducted from September 2, 2018 to October 10, 2018, 100 respondents (range 26-65) were included in this study., I. 56 respondents where this group consists of respondents who have TB negative (success). II. 44 respondents consisted of respondents who were still diagnosed with positive TB (unsuccess). Univariate analysis showed the data respondents, who were education, family type, distance, were more associated with success treatment. In multivariate analysis, factors associated with success treatment included education (OR 2.65; 95%CI; 1.08 - 6.61), family type (OR 2.65; 95%CI; 1.08 - 6.17), distance (OR 0.02; 95%CI; 1.08 - 6.61).
Conclusion: low educational level, lack of social support and distance factors are associated with success TB treatment.
