| บทคัดย่อ |
This study aims to investigate how verbal humor has been created in the situation
comedy Baby Daddy, and whether Thai university students perceive the funniness of the
show. Episode 1 and 3 of Season 1 of the show were purposively selected for the study. The
categorization of humor types proposed by Berger (1997) was adopted as a framework for
data analysis. In this preliminary study, it was found that seven techniques in creating humor
which included stereotypes, puns or wordplay, irony, eccentricity, repartee, coincidence and
allusion were used most in the canned laughter scenes. To ensure that humor in those
episodes could elicit laughter among Thai audience, fourteen fourth-year English major
students participated in the study on a voluntary basis to watch the two episodes. Data
collected from students’ notes and the interviews revealed that most of the canned laughter
scenes were funny for them. |
