Abstract ABSTRACT Chaoruehak N, Pongnaratorn P, Tong-Un T, Kanpetta Y, Aneknan P, Leelayuwat N. Muscle Oxygenation Impaired Without Any Relationships with Aerobic Capacity and Other Physiological Factors in Overweight or Obese Subjects. JEPonline 2019;22(4):1-14. The purpose of this study was to evaluate muscle oxygenation during the resting condition and the correlation between muscle oxygenation and aerobic capacity, muscle strength, and cardiovascular factors in overweight or obese subjects. Sixty subjects (9 males, 51 females) with a body mass index of ≥23 kg∙m-2 were recruited. The resting muscle oxygenation was measured at the vastus lateralis muscle by using Near Infrared Spectroscopy. The body mass index, waist and hip circumferences, fat percentage, fat mass, muscle mass, aerobic capacity, muscle strength, red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, heart rate, and blood pressure were also measured. The findings indicate that muscle oxygenation at resting condition was 52.17 + 9.99% and had no correlation with aerobic capacity and all other physiological factors. In conclusion, overweight and obese individuals had impaired muscle oxygenation without any relationships with aerobic capacity and other physiological factors associated with obesity.
