บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา 1) เพื่อศึกษาสังคีตลักษณ์ในเพลงแจ๊สของเวส มอนท์โกเมอรี่ 2) เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดที่ใช้ในการด้นในเพลงแจ๊สของเวส มอนท์โกเมอรี่จากบทเพลงที่ประพันธ์และบรรเลงโดย เวส มอนท์โกเมอรี่ ได้แก่ เพลง Fried Pies
จากการวิเคราะห์สังคีตลักษณ์ในบทเพลงดังกล่าวพบว่า
สังคีตลักษณ์แบบ ทำนองหลักและการแปร (Theme and variation)ในส่วนของทำนองหลัก พบว่าได้มีการสร้างและพัฒนาทำนองหลักโดยใช้วิธีการพัฒนาที่หลากหลายได้แก่ การสร้างและพัฒนาทำนองหลัก ด้วยการซ้ำ (Repetition)การใช้วิธีการพัฒนาทำนองด้วยการปรับระดับเสียง (Transposition) การสอดแทรกแนวความคิดใหม่ (New Idea) เพิ่มเติมสลับกับทำนองหลักการขยายทำนองด้วยการซีเควนซ์ (Sequence) การดัดแปลงกระสวนจังหวะของโมทีฟ (Motif Transformation)การขยายแนวคิดโดยการสร้างทำนองใหม่เพื่อสร้างความแตกต่าง (Contrast)เป็นต้น การประสานโดยส่วนใหญ่เป็นระบบประสานเสียงแบบ โทนาลิตี ในการดำเนินคอร์ดพบการดำเนินคอร์ดแบบ “เวส โคสท์ เชนจ์” (Wes Coast Changes) ซึ่งคิดค้นและเป็นเอกลักษณ์ในการดำเนินคอร์ดของ เวส มอนท์โกเมอรี่
ส่วนของการแปรทำนอง พบการแปรทำนองโดยการบรรเลงด้วยวิธีด้น เรียกการแปรแต่ละครั้งว่า “คอรัส” (Chorus) ซึ่ง 1 คอรัส หมายถึงการแปร1ชุด พบว่าในแต่ละเพลงมีรูปแบบของการบรรเลงในแต่ละคอรัส คือส่วนแรกเป็นการบรรเลงด้วยการด้นแบบโน้ตแนวเดียว(Single Notes) ส่วนที่สองคือการเล่นแบบขั้นคู่(Octave) ส่วนที่สามคือการเล่นแบบคอร์ดโซโล่หรือ บล็อกคอร์ด(Block Chords)

Abstract
This research aims to analyze forms of Wes Montgomery’s music and to study his improvisation concepts in these which are Fried Pies
The research results show that Theme and Variation form was used in all eight songs.There were various techniques which were employed in creating and developing themes which were repetition, transposition, addition of new ideas alternating with the motif, motif extension by using sequence, transformation of motif and creation of contrast motif. All eight songs were tonal music. However, Wes Coast Changes chord progression was used. This chord progression was created by Wes Montgomery and became his unique style.
Wes Montgomery varied his melody by improvising. He called each variation “Chorus” (one chorus means one variation). The first section was improvised with single notes. The second section was improvised using an Octave. The third section was played using chords solo and block chords.
