Abstract Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is the number one killer for patients around the world. Patients who can early detect their symptoms and quickly go to the hospital have higher survival rate. In contrast patients who confuse with atypical symptoms and cannot link between their risks to heart problem when experience AMI especially older adults delay treatment and have higher mortality rate. This study aimed to develop older adults knowledge of coronary artery disease and AMI questionnaires that fit within Thai context. There are three steps of questionnaires development including systematic review focus group and original questionnaire. This is an initial step of the questionnaire development. A Systematic review was conducted to explore knowledge of coronary artery disease and AMI. We performed a comprehensive searching on eight databases by using keywords and found 27594 papers for initial searching. There were 17567 paper after duplication and 1664 papers after reviewing title and abstract. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria 55 papers were included for final review. Of these 42 studied in mixed age groups, nine in adults three in older adults and one in adolescents. Knowledge was categorized into four groups risk factors symptoms managements and effects. The significant risks were hypertension smoking overweight family history and lack of physical activity. Symptoms of AMI were identified as chest pain shortness of breath heavy sweating arm jaw and neck pain and fatigue. Effects of AMI were mortality rate cost of treatment and length of stay. Finally AMI managements were calling 911 taking medicine and asking family member for help. Findings from this study can be used to guide questionnaire development and intervention to promote knowledge and avoid delay seeking treatment among older adults.
