Abstract Climate change in Thailand is impeding the country’s development, especially in the agriculture and health sectors. With increasing temperatures, sea levels have risen between 12 and 22 centimeters over the last century, creating extreme flooding across Thailand, as was seen in 2011 and 2016 [1]. Khon Kaen, the fastest growing city in the north-eastern region of Thailand, is suffering from the high impact of carbon pollution on people’s daily lives. In response, the ‘Khon Kaen Low Carbon City’ (KKLCC) project aims to promote sustainable development of the local environment. Since 2015, local schools in Khon Kaen province have been undertaking sustainable development projects. These can be classified into 4 groups based on the strategy of the National Municipal League of Thailand, namely, Green City, Clean City, City of Energy Care, City of Green Heart New Generation, and Living Sustainable City. In this project teachers in local schools are engaging students in developing understanding and critical awareness about the effect of climate change and the importance of taking action in their daily lives to conserve the environment through a STEAM education approach.
