Abstract The purpose of this research was to analyze students’ problem solving by themselves by using problem situations. Research method consist of 2 phases; the first phase is preparing classroom by the lesson study team and the second phase is collecting data with 2 weekly cycles. The target group was 7th grade students during 2019 academic year which use lesson study and open approach according to Inprasitha (2016; 2019). The instruments was lesson plan which designed by using problem situations under context and condition for 6 classes. Lesson study team observed students problem solving by themselves, recorded videos each classes, and reflexed together each lesson plan. Empirical data used for an analysis were composed of 1) protocol of the students’ problem solving by themselves in the classroom using lesson study and open approach,2) students’ worksheet 3) students’ interview and 4) protocol of lesson study team in weekly cycle. The study results revealed that students in classroom which use lesson study and open approach can solve problem by themselves under context and condition with problem situations in 3 ways 1)Estimation; students anticipate changes and ranges from pouring water in the pool, predict the relations between measures of x and y from problem situations in their context 2)Experiment; students turn on/off the tap and open the window each cases by using information form problem situations, 3)How to; students conclude the result by themselves for debate together in classroom. For all above were results of using problem situations which related and connected with students’ experiences. The students can participate in classroom with problem situations under condition and context, finally students can solve problem by themselves.
