| บทคัดย่อ |
Toolmark examination plays a crucial role in forensic science, particularly in metal theft. The research herein aims to investigate the characteristics of the tool marks from a common two-handed manual cable cutter left on a partially insulated cable (PIC). Through the use of a stereomicroscope, we examined the effects of both left-handed and right-handed indentations. The imprints generated formed clear borderlines that can be classified into three zones (A, B, and C) on the PIC surfaces. Deformations observed in the various zones of the surfaces of cut materials occured through three main forces; impression, shearing, and compression. The tool mark frequencies observed in Zones A and B were significantly different between the left-handed and right-handed imprints. We further observed that the areas of Zones A and B, and the skewness of the borderlines of Zone C directly correlated to the aptitudes of the left and right-handed volunteers. Preliminary results determined that the class characteristics of the tool marks can be applied to forensic examination and law enforcement. However, an increment number of volunteers and various types of cutters are recommended for further study. |
