     Abstract This research aims to examine the transformation of livelihoods among the transmigration household in Makmur Village, Indonesia. A qualitative methodology was implemented in the research methodology. The key informants consisted of 30 residents who stayed in the village, included 19 farmer household representatives, 10 community development-related persons, and 1 community leader. In-depth interviews and non-participatory observations were used, as a research tool, to collect qualitative data. Data collection conducted in June 2019 and data were analyzed by the content analysis method. The results explored that the livelihoods of residents in Makmur Village had been transforming due to an invasion of modernity and policies regarding developments. Livelihood activities were adjusted from farming activities to non-farm activities in order to fit with the changes in the local area. Five types of transformed livelihood activity included 1) farming for subsistence – in which many households grew rice in the upland and together with horticultural crops and medicinal plants, 2) farming for commerce which households engaged in oil palm and rubber, 3) commerce – some households stated running businesses such as catering, photocopy, water drinking, grocery store, palm middleman and freshwater seller. 4) skilled non-farm activities - teacher, chief of the cooperative, chief of farmer group, public servant, driver, company employees, the head of the neighborhood, civil servant and operator PAM Des, and 5) low skilled non-farm activities such as workers in oil palm plantation and rubber plantation.
