Abstract Analogical reasoning is cognitive skill that underpins many of 21st century competencies (Richland, L. E., & Simms, N., 2015), is an extremely important method of thinking for establishing perspective and discovering solutions (Isoda, M., & Katagiri, S., 2012) that one is believed to be an efficient means of problem solving (Lee, K. H., & Sriraman, B., 2011). It also seems that instruction of mathematical concepts through analogical reasoning modify the misconceptions and difficult of mathematical problems for students (Pang, A. W. K., & Dindyal, J., 2009; Amir-Mofidi, S. et al., 2012). Reasoning by analogy is important tool to use in mathematical problem solving both teachers and students (English, L. D. 2004, 2009). In addition, Lesson Study and Open Approach Contexts in Thailand is innovation that supports to solve mathematical problems both teachers and students as well (Inprasitha, M. et al., 2015) and changing mathematics instruction of 21st century that emphasized thinking to generate the remedies themselves (Inprasitha, M., 2015). This paper aim to present a document analysis for different contexts of using analogical reasoning, this paper used qualitative methodology by the literature review, for 26 years between 1989-2015, of research and theory (Holyoak, K. J., & Morrison, R. G., 2005). Using analogical reasoning is a research area in lesson study and open approach context of Thailand still have blackbox. So I want to show for clarity and very highest importance of mathematical reasoning by analogy. The finding found that, in different contexts by analogical reasoning has promoted students to be capable of schema and of effective problem solving in mathematics (Halford, G. S., & Boulton-Lewis, G. M., 1989; English, L. D., & Sharry, P. V., 1996; Richland, et al., 2004; Lee, K. H., & Sriraman, B., 2011; Richland, L. E., & Simms, N. 2015; etc.). In future research, I want to find out about “Major Components Analogical Reasoning” incorporate into lesson study and open approach of Thailand context in order to enhance problem solving classroom, the quality and successful instruction.
