Abstract |
Saline soil is important issue around the world. It effects plant growth and soil organism. Plant grows slower or halt to growth and soil organism couldn’ t survive. In Thailand, especially North-East region, saline soil is one of major problem and it effects on agriculture production and soil fauna such as earthworm. Earthworm helps improve soil structure, decomposed carcass of animal and plant, increases soil fertility and also its use for bio-indicator of environment quality. Organic amendment such as vermicompost and vetiver grass may use in rehabilitation of salt affected area. Therefore, this study aims to study the influences of vermicompost and vetiver grass on avoidance behavior of earthworm in saline soil. Earthworm spicies Eisenia fetida and Ban Pai soil series )EC = 2 – 4 dS/m) were used in this study. The avoidance test was conducted in 4 treatments (saline soil, saline soil mixed with vermicompost, saline soil mixed with vetiver grass, saline soil mixed with vermicompost and vetiver grass) for 48 hours. The Result of study found that saline soil mixed with vermicompost, mixed with vetiver and mixed with both could reduce avoidance behavior in earthworm compared with saline soil only. Moreover, we found that vermicompost and vetiver grass help reducing salinity level. |
